Rural hospitals in Morobe need doctors, says official

RURAL hospitals in Morobe need national, missionary or volunteer doctors to serve the vast population in remote areas, an official says.
Director corporate services (administrator) for Braun Memorial Rural Hospital in Finschhafen Simon Sonny said this after two volunteer doctors under the overseas partnership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG were farewelled two weeks ago.
The hospital, from Monday (today) will have only one overseas doctor serving. Dr Jean Clement is from Madagascar and he is the chief executive of the hospital.
Of the five doctors two have returned to Germany and one will leave to serve at Gaubin Rural Hospital in Madang.
“The hospital still needs doctors, especially paediatric surgeons and gynaecologists,” Sonny said.
He said one of the doctors, Dr Hubert Schildhauer, was on a three-month volunteer service at the hospital and was to leave for Germany on Saturday.
