SOME league administrators are disappointed that the government through Sports Minister Philemon Embel will try to pass a bill to run the affairs of the PNGRFL.

President of Popodentta rugby league association, Mathew Kano, who spoke to The National yesterday in Port Moresby said that the idea of government supporting rugby league in the country was a good one but was against the government taking over PNGRFL.

“I wish to congratulate Philemon Embel for the good of rugby league in the country but for the government to take over does not go down well with us,” Kano said.

Kano, who is also the patron of the Higaturu Oil Palm soccer association, said that Embel should give equal attention to all  sporting codes and not just rugby league.

“I ask Embel to withdraw this idea of passing that bill and he can concentrate on his portfolio in providing equal funding for all sports, not just rugby league.

“League is here to stay while politics is a numbers game for five years and then gone,” Kano warned.
