S Korean navy on a friendship outing

Two South Korean navy ships on a 12-nation tour to promote friendship sailed into Port Moresby harbour on Friday with 600 naval officers.
The ROKS Chung Mu Gon Yi Sun and ROKS Cheon Ji are part of the Korean Navy cruise training task group and were here for a two-day visit and to depart for Jakarta, Indonesia today.
This is the Korean navy’s sixth task group visit to PNG.
Task group public affairs officer Lieutenant Commander Jang Do Young said:  “The visit is a cruise training task group to promote friendship through various military diplomatic activities such as courtesy visits to distinguished guests, on-board receptions and cultural tours.”
Young said that PNG was part of their 12-nation itinerary which also included Indonesia, Japan, Russia, United States, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and China.
Young said that was also a cruise training and would provide expertise and on-board experience for midshipmen in their fourth year in the naval academy.
“This cruise is also for enhancing ROK’s friendship with the nations that they are visiting through military cooperation,” he said.
