Sack housing minister, PM

Letters, Normal

THE majority of Papua New Guineans are living and suffering in silence in the squatter settlements throughout the country.
I call on Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare to sack the housing minister for dereliction of duty and failure to provide housing for the people of PNG.
This is the minister’s second term in office and it is obvious he has not learn from his mistakes when he was in charge the first time.
The National Housing Corporation is a failed state agency and it is a national shame.
The prime minister does not have to dig deep into his files to dismiss the  minister.
He just needs to take a look into the public accounts committee’s inquiry report into the NHC and State Home Ownership Schemes presented to Parliament on March 2.
He can then follow it up with the auditor-general’s report spelling the total abuse and failure of the NHC in its corporate responsibility, accountability, transparency and sound governance.
The PAC report calls on the police fraud squad and the Ombudsman Commission to conduct criminal investigations, leadership referrals and prosecution.
It is serious, Sir Michael.
Our housing sector has suffered for too long because of wholesale corruption.
We are forced to live in sub-human squatter settlements and the time has come to dismiss the housing minister and the entire staff.
We need to restore our lost dignity.
