IN a bid to have high safety standards at its work sites, the Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd has trained all its personnel, including service providers and contractors, on occupational health, safety and environment programmes.

Ramu NiCo has successfully completed two weeks of training for 90 Raibus Security Service Ltd personnel at the company’s Basamuk Refinery plant in Madang.

The security company is owned by the Ramu NiCo impacted landowners through their unifying landowner umbrella company, Raibus Ltd.

The firm employs more than 600 guards in Madang and provides security services to Ramu NiCo’s Kurumbukari mine site, Madang base and Basamuk refinery.

It operates in Wewak and the Solomon Islands.

Of the 101 security guards deployed at Basamuk, 90 of them went through the training from June 6-13.

The guards learnt general safety induction, hazard awareness at work place, fitness for work including healthy life styles, first aid skills and waste management.

Basamuk refinery training manager Jeffers Teargun Heptol said the security personnels were equipped with important knowledge on OHSE programmes and other personal viability courses, including; anger management, decision-making and family and marriage relationships.

Similar training will be held at NCS-Raibus, the National Catering Service Company that provides catering services to Ramu NiCo mine and refinery sites.
