THE Salvation Army’s North Western Division in Jiwaka has opened a new church building at Nondugl on April 14.
The church opening coincided with the enrolment of 11 new officers, the rededication of two officers, the opening of a community water project and a thanksgiving service.
The Salvation Army runs health, education and social programmes.
The officer in charge of health services and commanding officer of Milsip Church, Captain Lista Du, said the church building at Nondugl cost K45,000.
The event was witnessed by Major Kila Apa and wife Kemo and the divisional staff from the Salvation Army’s Western Zone.
Nondugl church commanding officer Kelly Tai and the local community members who were at the event thanked those who supported the church work in Jiwaka.
Du said the Salvation Army in the United States will supply water tanks for the church building.
He said eight other churches in Jiwaka and an elementary school would also benefit from the distribution of water tanks next month.
“I am thankful for the services that would reach our side which would help us and benefit us in the long run,” he said, adding that villagers would look after the facilities.
More than a thousand people were at the event.
