Salvos launch Red Shield appeal

THE Salvation Army’s Red Shield appeal for 2011-12 was launched last Thursday with the aim of raising more than K500,000.
The appeal was launched by its patron and Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio at Government House. 
The appeal attracted a good response from corporate organisations, families and personal contributions from individuals.
Among the donors, Steamships Ltd gave K100,000, Airways donated K25,000, Rimbunan Hijau group of companies gave K20,000 with a personal donation of K10,000 from Ivan Lu of RH. Monica Salter and family gave K2,000.
Boroko Motors pledged a brand new Range Rover.
Sir Michael thanked the donors, saying: “To support this special work is to make a difference to our country and the Red Shield is committed to improving the quality of life in this country.”
He said the appeal was committed to serving the needy communities and marginalised people.
The Red Shield Appeal carries the motto “Heart to God and hand to man” and is dedicated to help the less fortunate by bringing care and support as well as teaching them the love of Christ.
The Red Shield is an initiative run by the Salvation Army church and has been operating in PNG for more than 30 years.
