SANTOS and Telikom PNG Limited plan to connect rural communities in Central, Gulf and Hela to the outside world in a partnership, says Telikom chief executive officer Amos Tepi.
“We are looking to get four locations done with their infrastructures as Santos have key sites that we are going to connect them with high-speed 4G mobile network,” Tepi said.
He said the two companies had been working together for the past two years to ensure that the selected areas along the Santos development sites would be connected with the Telikom Mobil 4G network. Tepi described the network connectivity along the Santos project areas as important because it would improve people’s lives with social services such as health and education.
He said during an agreement signing in Port Moresby on Friday to continue extending the network coverage work in the three provinces after Telecom completed the first two installations.
Santos Country (PNG) chairman Leon Buskens said the company wanted to ensure that people were provided a better place to live in through the telecommunication network with a high standard reception quality. “We wanted to provide a world class network (system) with 14 indications sites throughout the three provinces for network coverage,” Buskens said.
Buskens said it would be a multi-communication coverage.
“The areas of coverage would go through Kikori Ridge to Hela with two sites already linked,” he said.
