Sausage factory closure

Letters

THE Lae City Council finally closed the sausage factory at 2-Mile in Lae after settlers there complained of foul smell.
This goes back to as far as 2014.
The company’s general manager had then maintained that the waste storage it had was in compliance with the council’s health bylaws and building board regulations.
Inspections undertaken by council’s health inspector revealed that the initial building was
approved for warehousing purposes.
However, for reasons only known to the company, it had been converted into a sausage factory.
One would wonder if both the physical planning and the building boards in the city diligently assessed and considered the company’s initial planning and building boards applications?
However, it appears from the reports that the company had reneged from its original planning and building boards approved applications for a warehouse.
It decided to circumvent legal processes and satisfied itself to set up this sausage factory.
If this is proven to be correct, then I would strongly suggest that the sausage factory be permanently closed.
Business activities such as this raise health, safety and environmental concerns to the nearby community and therefore should not be allowed.
I would also suggest that the company should be referred to both the physical planning and building boards should it insist on continuing with its illegal activities.
