Sawmill machine supports SME

Business

THE owner of a sawmill machine in Southern Highlands says it helps in promoting the Government’s small to medium enterprise policy.
Ben Sawe thanked Imbongu MP Francis Awesa for allocating K75,000 to buy the portable sawmill machine to cut local timber for people to build permanent homes.
Sawe said after acquiring the machine, he and four others received training on how to operate it.
They will in turn train youths.
He said such small projects and business activities would promote the Government’s small to medium enterprises (SME) policy.
“The Government should stop spending millions of kina in Port Moresby and urban areas on infrastructure and put more to districts,” he said.
“Put more money in the rural communities and districts because that is where the bulk of the population live.
“People in the rural areas and villages are those who want to remain there and do the hard work for themselves, their families and communities.”
Meanwhile, the people of Buiyebi in Imbonggu  will be provided roofing iron to build permanent houses by the district adminstration.
Awesa said the assistance was to provide an incentive for people to buy locally-sown timber to build permanent homes.
“Forests have been our hardware supermarket and we should be harvesting and at same time preserved in sustainable manner for future generations,” he said.
