PORT Moresby Grammar School celebrated its foundation day on Friday with the blessing and rededication of the school.
Principal John Colwell said the foundation day started about 26 years ago during the inception of the school by the founder Donald Daniels when it was PNG’s first independent private school.
“It’s something that was done 26 years ago and we do it every year to dedicate the school and the students to the creator,” he said.
The event started with a formal ceremony of blessing of various school symbols including the PNG flag, school flag and flags representing 19 other nationalities in the student body.
The school files, equipment, text books, buildings and the student body were also blessed by Anglican Bishop Denny Guka and Catholic Priest Fr Urban Kalimantan.
The rest of the day saw students taking part in traditional dances and singsing from all over PNG.
International students were also given the opportunity to perform some of their traditional dances from Fiji, India and Philippines.

  • I am seeking the contact number for John Colwell (Jnr). My name is Peter Eddowes and I served under John Colwell (Snr) for 15 years at both the Division of Utilisation (Konedobu) and then at Forest Products Research Centre of the Dept., of Forests.
    Appreciate your assistance.
    Thanks / Regards
