THE chairman of a primary school in the National Capital District said he punched the school’s headmistress because of provocation.
Ororo Primary School’s board chairman (named) fronted up at The National’s office on Wednesday afternoon and admitted that he punched Felicitas Wambena, the school’s head teacher, because he was provoked.
“Yes, it’s true I’ve punched the headmistress. But it’s all because of a continuous build-up of frustrations and provocations she caused me. She has to blame herself,” he said.
The chairman said this in response to a report in The National on Wednesday saying that he physically assaulted and punched the head teacher of Ororo Primary School.
The chairman, however, said that the report was biased, untrue and degrading.
He said for some reasons he was not consulted so as to verify whether or not the claims raised by the headmistress were genuine or not before the publication of the story.
According to the chairman, the headmistress single-handedly managed to change the names of the signatories to the school’s bank account without the approval of the board.
He said Wambena also opened up a new bank account with another bank using the school’s subsidy without the approval of the board.
The chairman stated that Wambena did not provide any letter of authorisation from the district education board to prove that the change of signatures on the bank account were legitimate and necessary.
The chairman said that when he tried to enquire about the reasons for the sudden changes to the school’s bank account, Wambena accused him of occupying the office of the chairman illegally.
“I am not illegally occupying the chairman’s position, I have been voted in by the parents and citizens of the school. I am chosen on merit,” he said.
