WHILE most schools were gearing up for cultural shows and provincial days for the Independence celebration, one school had decided to take a different approach by hosting a sports carnival.
The Salvation Army’s Boroko Primary School held its first school athletics carnival at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Thursday.
Students, staff and parents packed the stadium for a day of athletics.
Principal Aero Evara was pleased with the school’s first major sports event.
She said the carnival coincided with the school’s Independence celebrations.
“We’ve never taken our carnival out of the school and this is the first time we’ve done so,” Evara said.
“This is to commemorate our 44th Independence anniversary.
“It was a slow start to the day but we’ve picked up very well.
“It’s really exciting for the children.
“We are looking to hosting more events like this.”
