INFRASTRUCTURE development plans at Kikori Secondary, in Gulf, are expected to start soon following a K6 million commitment made recently from a local level government president.

West Kikori LLG president and education chairman in the Provincial Assembly, Wilson Baidu made the commitment recently during his address to students and their parents, teachers, district education advisor Raven Avai, the principal of Kikori Secondary, Anthony Mumuan and chairman of the governing council, Soba Samai, at Kikori Station.

In 1991, the school in 1991 received K100,000 from former Prime Minister Sir William Skate.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill promised the school K1 million last year while on a tour with Gulf Governor, Havila Kavo and Kikori Open MP, Mark Maipakai but the commitment is yet to be fulfilled.

Baidu and his team visited the school to see first-hand, listen to, and gauge relevant stakeholders’ views to develop strategies to deal with and address current pressing issues affecting and hampering the progress of education within the district.

Kikori is one of the least developed districts in the country in terms of education and other infrastructure.

He said plans were underway to establish a technical and teachers colleges in the province.

While Malalaua Vocational Centre has been chosen and will be converted to a technical college, the decision on the location of the teachers’ college will be made public in the immediate future.

The education officers took time to conduct awareness on the some of the latest changes in the education system to teachers and board members of schools in the district.
