Schools to receive K300,000

TWO Lutheran high schools in Nawaeb, Morobe, will receive K300,000 each for infrastructure development, caretaker Minister for Education John Rosso says.
Rosso made the commitment at the grade 10 graduation ceremonies of Nawaeb Lutheran High School and the newly-established Boana Lutheran High School last Thursday.
He said Nawaeb Lutheran High School’s infrastructure grant would support various infrastructure developments currently taking place at the school, while Boana Lutheran High School’s grant would cater for its new science laboratory.
Rosso was accompanied Nawaeb MP Kennedy Wenge and vice minister for National Planning Dr Kobby Bomareo to the district for the graduations. It was Boana Lutheran High School’s first grade 10 graduation and the latter’s 16th grade 10 graduation.
Nawaeb Lutheran High School board chairman Rev Giegere Wenge asked for the school to be upgraded to a secondary school to cater for its rural student population.
Rev Wenge said the board was concerned that their grade 10 students who went to secondary schools in Lae were being affected by the school fight culture.
Rosso acknowledged the school’s request and said he would pursue their request with national and provincial education authorities.
He said he had no power to elevate the school’s status but he would follow up with the provincial education board and Education Department.
