BOURA Sea Eagles beat Kapala Bulldogs 16-8 in the Gabagaba Rugby League final on Saturday.
Boura had to dig deep and rely on their bench to stop the fast-finishing Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs had the chance to win the match but errors prevented them from gaining field position to register points.
Port Moresby Rugby League’s Hanua Rupa refereed the game, allowing both sides to play in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Boura coach Ted Vere said his players had to work overtime in defence to stop the Bulldogs.
“It was good to see the young generation playing good, clean football,” Vere said.
“It’s like when i played so I praised both teams for their discipline. This can only be good for rugby league in the village.”
Rugby league administrator Solomon Ravu, Moresby South Rugby League chairman Brown Murema, deputy Bagelo Solien and PNG Hunter Adex Wera attended the match.
Ravu and MSRL provided trophies and cash prizes.
Solien, from Gabagaba, said the final was a successful one and commended the players for their efforts.
Ravu said it was good to assist the village with trophies and cash prizes to recognise players for their performance.
