THE National Weather Service has issued a strong wind warning to sea travellers in Western, Gulf, Central and the National Capital District, advising them to take safety precautions.
Director Samuel Maiha said people must heed the warnings and avoid going out to sea.
He reminded the people of the sea tragedy in which 172 people went missing around this time seven years ago, and warned everyone to be careful about going out to sea.
“People need to take heed of the warnings,” Maiha said.
He said strong winds were expected to increase and extend from Milne Bay to Gulf, Central and the National Capital District by Sunday.
“Wind surge of 34 to 64 knots in Western causing rough seas and extend to Gulf, Central and Port Moresby that night,” he said.
“Today and the weekend will have strong winds at 25 to 34 knots with normal seasonal rain.”
He said a strong wind warning was issued to Gulf and Milne Bay while a gale force wind warning was in force for Western.
