Second chance for dropouts

SCHOOL dropouts in East Sepik have been offered a second chance to continue their education.
St Andrews Avet Community College is part of the Government’s initiative to include students who have been excluded from the formal education system. It gives them a second chance for education and adds value to their lives.
With the theme ‘Including the excluded, giving the best to the least’, the college offers fulltime academic flexible open distance education (Fode) for students ranging from grades 6 to 12. Technical vocational education and training (Tvet) courses are offered those who did not make it to tertiary institutions.
“These courses are aimed at developing student’s industrial entrepreneurship skills,” said college director Emily Kopania.
“They help them to settle back into their communities and join the workforce as semi-skilled citizens for both everyone’s benefit,” she said.
