Second time lucky for competition winner

MARY Kome, 56, was lucky for a second time when she won the The National’s masthead competition.
She had won in April and last Wednesday, she was one of the four winners in the latest round of the competition.
Kome, from Manus, said she would use her prize – K250 – to contribute to a funeral.
“Every good thing that happens in life is a blessing and this is a blessing at the right time when I needed it,” she said.
“One of my neighbour passed away on Monday and I was worried in terms of contribution.
“I thank God because He knows my thoughts and has blessed me so I am going to use this money to contribute to my deceased neighbour’s family.
“I am quite relieved now and I thank The National for putting on such a competition.”
Kome said she bought the paper every day and has been an active participant since it started in January.
Now she is hoping for a third win.
Another winner, Jepitha Jethro, 14, from Southern Highlands, who attends Bomana Primary School, said she would use the money to buy her new school uniform.
“My old school uniform is torn and I really needed a new one, now I can afford it and I’m thankful,” she said.
Lydia James, 36, from Eastern Highlands, also won K250.
She said she had been trying since the competition started and finally won.
“I am a single parent and I will use this money to buy school stationery for my son who attends Wardstrip Primary,” she said.
