Secretariat to partner with churches

THE National Aids Council Secretariat will be partnering with churches to work in communities mainly targeting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention interventions for behavioural change says an official.
Secretariat acting director Tony Lupiwa said this when committing their support to the Evangelical Lutheran church at Gorobe in the National Capital District recently.
He said churches are a focal point that bring people together in communities to hear the word of God so they are able to change some of their behaviours that may put them at risk to acquire HIV.
He was more concerned about the youth population in the Gorobe settlement.
“Your work is to preach the word of God for people to hear and the music should be loud to attract young people to come and that is where they will come and change,” Lupiwa said.
Lupiwa said most of the young people who live around the Gorobe settlement are from Western, Gulf and Central who left their homes and travelled into the city to look for better opportunities in life.
However, he was concerned that they could fall into developing bad habits and engaging in unprotected sexual activities.
“That is the risk and we need to protect them, that is why we have partnered with the church to lead in protecting our children,” Lupiwa said.
