MANY security companies are taking advantage of the recent boom in the industry without fully complying with the regulations of the Security Industry Authority (SIC), says its registrar.
Paul Kingston Isari said security companies were required to pay their licensing and permit fees to the authority annually but were failing to do so.
He said the security companies were required to pay the outstanding fees that dated back to 2006 when the regulation was gazetted.
“When the SIC regulation was gazetted, most companies were operating yet they were not paying.”
Kingston said by not adhering to regulations, they were operating illegally and that included two of the biggest companies, Pacific Corporate Security and G4S, in the country.
He said Pacific Corporate had offices established in almost all major centres in PNG.
“Pacific Corporate Security has attempted to make payments for this year but I kept their cheque, telling them to pay their outstanding.”
before the authority can give them their permit and licence.
“They have not paid for all the years they have been operating.”
Kingston said despite several correspondences with the executives of the company, they had failed to comply.
He said G4S was in the same boat except that it had paid up since 2011.
“They will have to pay for the period between 2006 and 2011.”
