SECURITY preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit has added value to the upskilling of the security forces, an officer says.
PNG Defence Force police director Lt-Col Ivan Timo told 63 soldiers graduating at Murray Barracks on Friday after completing a two-week public order management training in Port Moresby that Apec was bringing a lot of good things to the country
Training was conducted by the Australia Federal Police under the PNG-Australia policing partnership programme as part of security preparations for the summit in November.
“This Apec has brought a lot of good things to the country not only at the political and economic levels but also in other sectors of the government, including the security forces, which PNGDF is a part of,” Timo said.
He urged the 63 participants, including eight female officers, to maintain the training they received and make their certificates meaningful.
“It’s been a while we had training like this. But we will not stop here.
“Do not get this certificates and go and throw them away and forget about training. It’s going to continue.”
Timo said training was basically about controlling oneself to prevent unruly behaviour.
