A 32-YEAR-OLD security guard was charged with causing grievous bodily harm by pouring boiling water on a 15-year-old boy on Oct 27.
Matthew Kais, from Autonomous Region of Bougainville’s Tanamalit village, appeared before Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Cosmas Bidar on Friday to face a charge of harming Paul Bina.
The court was told that at about 3am on Oct 27, Kais, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was at the Vitis Security Industry’s premises at 9-Mile, Port Moresby, with other security guards on duty when they spotted 13 youths defacing the fence with graffiti.
The guards chased the youths and caught two of them, Bina and Jacob Albert, 13.
Bina and Albert were taken to the security operation room and were allegedly assaulted with a fan belt, punched and kicked.
During the assault, Kais allegedly pulled down his pants and ordered Albert to perform oral sex, threatening him with boiling water.
Albert refused and Kais grabbed a jug and poured the boiling water on him but Bina intervened to shield Albert.
As a result, Bina suffered serious burns.
Bina and Albert were held in the security room for more than four hours before they sent to the hospital where they spent another four hours before being sent to the police station.
Policemen reacted by calling the St John Ambulance to send the boys to the hospital for proper medical treatment. Bina’s guardian then lodged a police report and Kais was arrested.
Bidar adjourned the case to Jan 20 and Kais was granted K500 bail.

  • Not a very good treatment for both young boys but it does sends out a warning that the public is tired and had enough of seeing graffiti on fences and walls of buildings.
