Seeking help on village’s shares

Letters

I WRITE on behalf of the people of Kui village in Ward 1 of Morobe rural local level government in Huon Gulf.
In 1993, the people of Kui bought a share from the Lihir Gold Mine under the business name Boali Fishing Group Ltd.
The share bought was a sum of K800.
My father was appointed chairman of the group then with a Naiman Woi as his deputy.
However, in 2005, dad handed over the necessary documents to his deputy and left the village for pastoral training at the Baptist bible training centre in Wau, Morobe.
There was no proper official documentation of the transfer of position made thus the signatory holder remained unchanged.
Naiman died in 2015 and the shareholder documents he had in his possession were lost in a fire.
In 2017, the village committee, Erik Awateng, approached my father, Pascal Sarikon, inquiring if he still had the documents.
The people of Kui have not been paid any dividends.
They are wondering if they would ever get paid.
The share was bought through the Westpac bank.
But upon enquiring with Westpac, we were told that everything was done manually around the time when the share was bought.
The bank said the records were no longer available.
We are asking if anyone can help us by giving information about what has happened to the people’s share.
We want to know if it’s possible for the people to get what rightfully belongs to them.
