SON Elizah yesterday described the late pilot Captain Leslie Sefuve as a humble, fun-filled and loving father who would be dearly missed.
He told of how the family got wind of the tragedy last Saturday on social media two hours after it happened. “His friend in Jayapura posted about his death about two hours after the crash,” Elizah said. “We could not accept the news and it took us three days for the news to sink in.
“He was a humble, fun-filled and loving father. When he came for a break, he mingled with the community. We will really miss him.”
The late pilot, his Indonesian co-pilot and six passengers died when the Twin Otter aircraft crashed into mountainous jungle near Oksibil airport in Papua province. The wreckage was found by locals on Sunday.
The late pilot is survived by wife Mathilda, seven children and two grandchildren. Their eldest child is 25 and the youngest is three-years-old.
His cousin brother Jonathan Haveo said Sefuve would be missed by the people of Eastern Highlands. “He is a household name in the province as a pride of the Eastern Highlands pilots.”
