WOMEN’S amateur champion Kristine Seko is primed to win gold for Papua New Guinea if her performance at the 2015 SP Export PNG Open is an any indication.

Seko shot one under 71 last Friday, the lowest score by a woman at the Royal Port Moresby Golf course

Coach Graham Bolton, who was monitoring the performance of all national golf squad members for the Pacific Games, said Seko was outstanding and was a genuine contender for the gold medal.

Bolton said the national squad would not be announced yet but her performance already warranted a spot in the team.

“She is definitely in the women’s team but it will have to go through other selectors as well. She is head and shoulders over everyone. She shot a score beating the men’s amateur which is unheard of during my working time up here in PNG,” he said.

He said the selectors would have to look at the score sheets after the PNG Open and would decide which five players would make the team going into July Games. But PNG Golf will have four players to represent the country – it goes for both men and the women’s team.

The runner-up is Hazel Martin with 41 shots while Roz Taufa 44.

Bolton said he wanted all the players to become good and ready to win the medal come July.

In the remaining two months, the team will go through intense training, which includes taking part in club games for their respective clubs, and intensive training before July.

The selectors will make some good decision on their selection.
