PAPUA New Guinea international Tommy Semmy says he is looking forward to representing the country again after his last appearance in the 2016 Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup.
The former Hekari United striker was part of the 30-man squad announced last month for the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in Qatar.
“The last time I wore the PNG colours was in 2016,” Semmy told The National on Monday.
“It’s a great feeling to be back on the team.
“I can’t wait to show what I can offer.
“With the experience I have from playing overseas, I’m looking forward to sharing it my teammates to build a strong squad.”
When asked if he would be returning to PNG to train with the rest of the squad, Semmy said he would continue training with his Hamilton Wanderers in New Zealand before joining the squad for the qualifiers.
“We’re starting a new season soon, so our pre-season training kicks off this week,” the striker said.
“It’s good to be back on the field, so I’ll keep training here before joining the squad to go to Qatar.
“I’ve already got approval from my club that I’ll be joining the national team next year. To the rest of the squad who are in camp now, good luck and I can’t wait to meet you all and play together again.
“It’s time to prepare for the big tournament, so it comes back to us individually to be responsible for our own training and how we look after our body.”
