Senior elder to visit ‘Saints’

THE Church of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will play host to senior elder, Tad R Callister, who will be arriving in Papua New Guinea over the weekend for a three-day visit.
Mr Callister will meet with local members of the church.
The church elder is a member of the second quorum of the 70 of the church and has been serving as the president of the Canada Toronto East Mission in Canada at the time of his call.
Besides PNG, Mr Callister is also responsible for the church’s activities in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the Solomon Islands and this weekend’s visit is part of his mission work.
The church’s PNG public affairs director, Terry Ward, said yesterday that Mr Callister would be in Port Moresby to talk about the aspects of the church and the principles by which the saints (members of the church) must follow to live a clean life.
“This will be his first visit to the country and we certainly hope that he will have a pleasant stay here in Port Moresby when meeting and doing business with us,” he said.
Mr Callister has served in a number of church callings including full time missionary in the Eastern Atlantic States mission, elder quorum president, stake mission president, stake president’s councillor, bishop, stake president, regional representative, mission president’s councillor, mission president and area 70.
With a colourful background of a bachelors of science degree in accounting from Brigham Young University in 1968, Mr Callister later attended UCLA Law, graduating with a law degree in 1971.
He then earned an LLM (master’s) degree in tax law from New York University.
Prior to his call as a mission president, he was employed as a practicing attorney with the firm of Callister & Callister since 1972.
