Sentenced for assaulting ex-wife

A 38-YEAR-OLD businessman was given a one-year non-custodial sentence by the Mount Hagen district court for assaulting his ex-wife.
The businessman, from Tambul’s Keripi Village, Western Highlands, had attacked his wife in the court premises on Nov 11.
Magistrate Lydia Karre handed down her decision in a special court sitting on Friday at Mount Hagen police station.
Kopil assaulted Lovelin Joseph at 1.44pm in Mt Hagen court premises.
According to police investigations, Kopil approached his ex-wife outside the court rooms and assaulted her while the courts were in session.
Police said Joseph’s brother, Dominic Malt, then retaliated, exchanging several punches with Kopil before court sheriffs arrested them.
They were found guilty last Wednesday and fined K500 in default three months jail.
