Separate building needed: PPC

National

THERE is a need for a separate police post building at Mungou government station in the Sinivit local level government (LLG) of Pomio, East New Britain (ENB), to provide effective police services to the area. This concern was raised by ENB police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali. Chief Insp Tabali was responding to a newspaper article on Monday in which Sinivit LLG president Boniface Gerep requested for a police vehicle for the Mungou police post and a permanent police officer to be stationed at the government station. Chief Insp Tabali told The National in Kokopo yesterday that the vehicle for the Mungou police post was at the Kokopo Police Station’s transport unit. He said the vehicle had been returned to Kokopo because there was no police post building of its own at Mungou and the officer who was deployed there used his house to attend to complaints. “Police officers are using the same building with other local level government public servants and this is not good,” he said. “For police, we need a separate building of our own, so we can deal with police matters effectively.” Chief Insp Tabali said he had raised this concern with the LLG administration and was waiting for a response.
