Sepik region economy to double: Bird

Business

EAST Sepik Governor Allan Bird says in two years, he expects the Sepik economy to double from the current annual turnover of K800 million.
Bird, as part of his New Year’s message to his people this week, said that would mean 100 per cent increase in opportunities.
“The headline information is that 2020 will be a much better year for us,” he said.
“2020 to 2030 is a very exciting decade for us.
“I expect this to be the decade of exceptional growth and prosperity in the greater Sepik region.
“This requires us to broaden our mind to see the new possibilities.
“For instance, in 2017, I told our people that cocoa prices will improve in 2019.
“Plant cocoa, rehabilitate your blocks.
“Don’t wait for free handouts from Government. Invest in yourself, trust yourself.
“Cocoa prices did improve and those who took the opportunity are now reaping the benefits and they are going to get better in the near term.
“Today the Sepik economy is worth around K800 million annually.
“In another two years, I am expecting this figure to at least double.
“That means a 100 per cent increase in opportunities.”
Bird said local MPs in the province were working on creating opportunities for their people.
“Your MPs are working,” he said.
“Sepik is creating new opportunities and our people who already own land need to position themselves to benefit from these opportunities.
“If you don’t, someone else will see the gap and move in. We are living in a time of great promise
“I encourage you to study the opportunities in Sepik and figure out how you can participate.
“The playing field is open.”

  • Thank you Governor. Believe your leadership and administration to continue improve and strengthen the Governance System to enable genuine Sepik citizens to partner with ESPG in exploring business opportunities in agriculture, fisheries, tourism and other qualified business activities. Yes all in the name of economically empowering the Sepik citizens.

Fellow Sepik citizens, let us utilise this positive economic outlook for our benefit. Preserve our land and sea including its flora and fauna (do not sell your inheritance for cheap money). Toil the land in planting cash crops like cocoa, coffee, vanilla etc. The rest shall fall in place.

Yes despite our many differences, let us work together for a Greater Sepik Region!

  • Happy and PROSPEROUS 2020!
ESP Governor, I’m so thankful for your wonderful and challenging new year message to the wonderful and hardworking people of ESP. I’m 100% agreed with this challenging messages however, if only the people get the attention and put the challenge to the test. Than they would see the possible outcome or otherwise the challenge would only be a flyer.
Thank you ESP Governor I appreciate your great and challenging messages and the onus is now on the people of ESP
    “PROSPEROUS 2020YEAR TO YOU ALL.”

  • Our East Sepik Governor knows the potentiality in economic growth. We the people must take his experiences and never wait around for free handouts mentality. When sweating out achieving your dreams is always fragile.More improvement in skills,New intervention are acquired, formalities are in place.By than you are a great financial achiever or expert. Therefore I would ask all the people of East Sepik, let’s pave way for economic sustainability by putting our time in growing cash corps, fishing and so forth as our role model leader emphasized.
