Sepik Vanilla ice cream on shelves

Business

PARADISE Foods Group Ltd, as part of the drive to source local produce, started shipping its Sepik Vanilla Gala ice cream last month.
Chief executive officer James Rice said 100 per cent of the vanilla in its subsidiary Laga Industries was from East Sepik.
“We buy from established channels that in turn buy from individual farmers. Laga only sources vanilla from within PNG and this production run has 100 per cent Sepik vanilla,” he said.
Rice said it was an initiative for Laga Industries and Paradise Foods to source and promote local ingredients across Papua New Guinea.
“By branding this ice cream Sepik Original Vanilla, we are showing our commitment to source only East Sepik vanilla,” he said.
“We cannot put anything else in it. We started shipping it out last month, it is available in the 1-litre tub for a limited time.
“You can recognise this special ice cream with the Sepik inspired artwork on the ice cream container and lid.
“Sepik vanilla is highly regarded across the world and it makes sense to use what mother nature has grown on our doorstep.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for Laga to showcase Sepik vanilla to all our ice cream fans.”
He said the company was working on other projects coming up in terms of encouraging downstream processing.
“We are busy in the kitchen experimenting with new exciting PNG flavours.”

These are all what Paradise is focusing on under the leadership of James Rice. This also helps Paradise Group, able to gain the trust of PNG audience much more easily than an outside player. Localizing PNG’s product will surely help level the playing field in the manufacturing industry. Wow, keep it up James Rice.

  • I would like to apply at paradise food. Do you hire people from the Philippines. What is the email add.
    Thanks

  • Gala Industries through Paradise Foods is owned by Papua New Guinean through its Nambawan Superannuation Fund limited thus a has our full support for its down stream processing.

  • Mr. Rice. Congratulations to you for your seriousness in supporting PMJM,s dream for local participation in down stream processing. Very for in cocoa and now vanilla. Simbu is into small/family farming in vanilla. Liaise with DPI officers in the province to update if they have any. For your info, Mr. Rice, Queen Emma products are on the shelves in Kundiawa town shops, my kids love them.

  • Well done Paradise Foods. That’s what PNG needs. PNG made from locally sourced primary products.

  • A while ago GFI commissioned its new K10m rice mill in Port Moresby with another much bigger one under construction in Lae, now Paradise Foods Ltd coming up with this down stream processed good with local content….these are achievements though long delayed in time. Such instill some feeling of pride and security. For the last 40+yrs consecutive governments have been putting all attention and investment into the resource sector with minimal attention to the agricultural sector. One thing people forget to realize is that at the end of the day mankind need food to eat 3 times a day. Early this yr PMJM made an allocation of K300m for the sector. This is the way forward. Congratulations to GFI & PFL
