DEPARTMENT of Personnel Management secretary John Kali has challenged the students of the Institute of Public Administration to remain committed to serving the people despite political instabilities.
Kali, who is chairman of the institute’s governing council, urged the students, most of whom are public servants, to serve diligently.
The institute saw 157 students graduate at its 16th graduation ceremony.
The institute offers diploma in public administration, diploma in local level government management, diploma in human resource and certificate in accounting and middle management courses.
Kali said the institute was shifting its education services from providing supply-driven courses to demand-driven courses meaning the courses would be offered based on workforce demand.
Speaking on behalf of Public Service Minister Bart Philemon, Kali commended the school management for the shift in its teaching standards and challenged the students to uphold the public service code of ethics.
Among the graduates was Jeremy Jacob, of Vanuatu, who was the only non-Papua New Guinean and who graduated with a diploma in public administration.
Among the graduates were 27 students who received certificates in middle management course, 15 were sponsored by the Department of Works and 12 by the Kundiawa General Hospital.
There were five dux awards and five citizenship awards presented to students in their respective courses.
The dux awards were for those who performed exceptionally, while the citizenship awards were given to those with outstanding leadership qualities.
