Set up special force unit

Letters

THE killing of the warlords in last Thursday’s newspaper through jungle justice can be deduced that the men were roaming around freely until they met their fate.
One vital sector revealed by such episodes to be terribly lacking and needs urgent overhaul is security.
Gunmen who use weapons against law enforcers should not be allowed freedom to continue their bad activities.
They should be hunted and put away within a week of their crimes.
It is obvious we do not have such mechanism in place so we read of our defence, police, CS, and justice personnel’s being killed or injured while the perpetrators are basking in their heroism among their admirers.
Take the leader of the Baker gang in Alotau for example.
He is still on the loose giving confidence to upcoming criminals that it is possible to live above the law.
Not to mention the Sri Lankan and Chinese triad bosses that seem to have our public officials in their pockets and cheating the Government and the people.
PNG needs a more sophisticated, well-disciplined special unit of dedicated men with experiences in security services.
That team should be highly trained and adept in martial arts and weapons handling and stationed out of public view.
They shall have their own intelligence sub-unit with direct access to all security arms of the Government and police stations in the cities, towns, and districts nationwide.
Personals should be attired in the best military gears with safety and logistical support to address specific hard core crimes anywhere in the country within limited time.
Their identity should be covered in hooded face masks during operations.
The unit’s objective will be to identify and eliminate enemies of the State, ranging from law enforcers’ killers, warlords, sea pirates and cult leaders in no-go zones.
They should be able to swiftly locate and dispose ring leaders of the aliens that brought in prostitutes, drugs and counterfeit products into our country.
The clumsy and awkward handling of such cases by concerned government agencies, thus far, cannot be allowed to go unabated.
One aspect of taking back PNG should be to eliminate and disintegrate enemies of the State within and from outside with an iron fist in record time.
The Government should be willing to make policies and budget for that. It will be a sound investment for the country.
