Seven couples receive marriage certificates

MANY workers cannot have their families share the benefits of their employment because of identification issues, a worker says.
A group of PNG Power workers took part in a marriage certificate presentation ceremony for seven couples hosted by the Papua New Guinea Civil Identity Registry (PNGCIR) last week.
Bradley Kautu, a father of one, said getting his marriage certificate was really important for his dependents to fully benefit from his job.
“If I do not have such legal documents, my employer will not include my family in my leave travel and expenditures,” he said.
Kautu said the idea and process of getting marriage certificates as a group was initiated by his colleagues.
“We are from a team that know each other very well therefore we agreed to register and follow up on the process as a team.”
PNGCIR registrar-general Noel Mobiha said this was the first occasion in which marriage certificates were issued to a group of employees from an organisation.
