NATIONAL Capital District (NCD) Met Supt Perou N’dranou says sexual offences are increasing and are the most reported cases at police stations.
N’dranou said most sexual offences happened in homes and were not reported to police.
He said people needed to change their attitude to reporting these offences so that police could attend to the cases.
N’dranou added that the recovery rate of stolen motor vehicles was good.
He said out of five to six vehicles stolen every week, four to five were recovered.
N’dranou said most of the crimes reported to police at the police station or through the toll free number were attended to by police.
“The issue is preventing it (offences) in the first place,” he said.
“I would say that our response to reported crimes is very good but people are still not reporting crimes and we want to prevent crimes.”
Perou said Boroko police station had a juvenile processing centre where teenagers arrested could be processed.
and any teenager arrested and charged throughout the city needed to be brought to the centre for processing.
