Shape up or ship out, MP warns public servants

PUBLIC servants who do not perform will be sacked and removed from Kabwum district, local MP Patrick Basa says.
He issued the warning last Thursday during a five-day electoral visit.
Basa, who is also the Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, visited Kabwum station, Upat, Iloko, Molom and Sogim villages.
He said Kabwum was not a holiday camp were public servants came to relax.
“The Public Service Management Act states that all public servants working and living in all districts around the country work according to their job descriptions and Kabwum is no exception,” he said.
Basa said public servants would only be allowed to leave if they had a genuine reason but they were to return to the district to work because they were being paid for their services to the government and the people.
“The Kabwum District Development Authority (KDDA) is focusing on delivering essential government services in all sectors which means that every public servant living and working in the district are obligated to do what is required of them,” he said.
“If any public servant in Kabwum does not perform, the KDDA will follow legal procedures to get rid of them.”
Basa said the priority was that to ensure that vital government services were being delivered to the people in the district effectively and efficiently.
