PAPUA New Guinea Lewas captain Norma Ovasuru guided her Swire Shipping Sharks to a comfortable five-wicket win in the women’s Gabba Champions Shield final at Colts Ground on Saturday.

After thrashing the Remington Rhinos by nine wickets in the semifinal, the Sharks advanced to the final against the Pure Water Diamonds.

Batting first, the in-form Tanya Ruma (32) and Pendel Ipi (18) looked to guide the Diamonds to a big total but when they were both dismissed, the Diamonds slumped to 100/8 off their allotted 20 overs.

Ovasuru was once again the pick of the Sharks’ bowlers, taking 2-19.

In reply, the Sharks had no problems chasing down the total making 104/5 off 17 overs, thanks to a classy unbeaten 56 runs from Ovasuru, which included seven boundaries.

Ovasuru batted with maturity and class in a high pressure situation to give the Sharks the inaugural Gabba Champions Shield.
