POLICE are still waiting for relatives to identify the three people whose bodies were found in the Mendi River two weeks ago.
Southern Highlands police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari told The National yesterday that no one had come to identify the two women and a man.
Chief Supt Lakari described the three as “middle-aged”. Police believe they were killed in relation to sorcery and their bodies dumped in the river.
The body of the first woman was found on Dec 31. The body of the man was found on Jan 4.
The body of the second woman was found at Kiburu outside Mendi town on Jan 5.
“We are still waiting for the relatives of the three to come forward and identify them,” he said.
“These people were deliberately killed and their bodies dumped into the river.
“Their family members must come forward and claim the bodies.”
Chief Supt Lakari said those responsible for the killing would be arrested.
Western End police commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Kaiglo Ambane said last week that there could be more bodies in the river and urged people to inform police if they found any.
ACP Ambane believed that the bodies were from Karintz area.
