Siblings thank parents

PAPUA New Guinea Kumuls siblings Wellington and Stanton Albert have credited their parents for the successes they continue to enjoy on the international stage and at club level in rugby league.
Siblings Rhyse and Tyson Martin played one test together in 2015. Ase and Waston Boas have played five tests and one invitational match together.
There were also other siblings like the Kouoros (Joshua, Haoda and Gideon), Krewanty (Arnold and Alex) and Pandias (Sebastian and Richard) who played for the Kumuls at different times.
The Albert brothers have so far played seven tests, two invitational matches and one Prime Minister’s 13 fixture together. Stanton, the younger of the Albert brothers, played two more tests than his sibling.
“Playing alongside Stanton in PNG colours for some years now is a blessing,” Leeds Rhinos forward Wellington Albert told The National from the United Kingdom this week.
“We have good parents who raised us well,” he said.
“Our parents are only subsistence farmers but they taught us about God, and how to work hard and be disciplined in order to be a better person in the community.
“I think that’s a great foundation to raise a child to be successful in life.
“Our parents are always proud of us playing together and happy with our achievements as well.”
Wellington said their mother was always concerned about their safety.
“Our mother always feels scared when players tackle Stanton and me,” 25-year-old former SP Hunter said.
“Sometimes she’s even crying while watching our games.
“Our father always challenges us to be the toughest players on the field and not fear our opponents — he reminds us before every game we play.”
The Alberts most recently played together in November last year when the Kumuls recorded a historic 28-10 win over the touring Great Britain Lions at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
