SIKMAC Storm maintained their clean record beating Baruni Sea Eagles 14-8 in the final of the Hanuabada Village Women’s League nines tournament at the Konedobu oval on Saturday.
The Storms were unbeaten throughout the tournament and made a bit of history to snatch the inaugural nines crown.
The experience of the Port Moresby Rugby League players in Mareva Oda, Boio Vaieke, Martha Molowia and Iga Skala Kere proved too much for the Sea Eagles rookies who played their guts out to keep the score at a six-point difference.
They Sea Eagles made certain through their determination that the Storms worked extra hard to win the crown.
The Baruni women should be praised because they went into the tournament as outsiders and beat other teams from Hanuabada, capping off a great first year and will be looking forward to the next 2010 tournament.
Tournament founder and director Nao Boge said selections for the final 25 players for the Hanuabada Hawks team in the Port Moresby Rugby League would be finalised soon.
Boge commended all the teams from Hanuabada, Baruni, Tatana and Pari for taking part in the event and showcasing their many raw untapped talents for possible selections to the Hawks club.
“This was the first time for the majority of the players to play contact sport and it is good practice for them to prepare them for the future” he said.
