ABIGAIL Kaupa will be among members of the Simbu Bikers’ Association Papua New Guinea, who would ride into the main venue of the PNG Games in Kimbe, West New Britain, later this year.

The determined cyclist is already preparing with the rest of the 20-member team that would represent their province in a ceremonial event at the national games.

Kaupa  and several male members of the cycling team may be selected for other competitive events at the games, however, that could not be confirmed. Kaupa, 29, from Emai village of Suwai local level government in the Sinasina-Yongomugl district, would be among the 20 bikers as part of Team Simbu to the November event in Kimbe.

“In life, determined females do extraordinary things that many do not believe possible, but are achieved only with focus and a positive mindset,” Kaupa said.

Kaupa, who stands at 160cm weighs 60kg, joined the Simbu Bikers Association in last year.

She works with the provincial treasury office in Kundiawa.

She is already beginning to master stunts and mountain climbs.

“It’s all about body balance and a lot of practice,” she said.

“I felt nervous in the last couple of days while training, but each day my techniques and skills have improved,” Kaupa said.

According to association president Andy Ninkama, the intention of participating in the Games was not for competition but to showcase their talents.

He said Team Simbu had supported the Simbu Bikers’ Association with K50,000 donation.
