SIMLA are prepared to take on Maela 1 in tomorrow’s Eastern Papua Carnival quarterfinal with the aim to grab a semifinal spot against Utuyagila in the men’s cup playoff.
Co-captain Bret Seriba said his side faced Maela in the knockouts last week and came out victorious and have prepared accordingly for the do-or-die fixture.
Meanwhile, Galea will face Katakaila in the president’s minor cup final while Pom Luba and Kasamadaga face off in the women’s major cup finals. LSC and 28 Plus will battle for the president’s minor cup finals.
Seriba said Simla’s preparation went well and they were looking forward to give Maela a run for their money – a team made up of players from the Port Moresby Soccer Association, National Soccer League and a few PNG Kapuls players including Charlie Lepani and Michael Foster.
Simla on the other end comprises of players from Genesis (in the Port Moresby Soccer Association) including Seriba, co-captain Toru Simoi and Nathaniel and Andrew Lepani. The rest of the players are from Trobriand Island, Dobu, Maiwara and Goodenough Island.
“We are eager to play them than any other team,” he said.
“We understand there has been appeal submitted regarding some of their players who may not be eligible to be fielded as per the tournament’s player eligibility rule but we welcome anybody,” Seriba said.
