FORMER education secretary Dr Musawe Sinebare (pictured) has been appointed the vice-chancellor of the University of Goroka.
The university council appointed him to fill the position left vacant following the death of Dr John Kola last month.
Chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb said Sinebare was no stranger to the tertiary and university education sector because he began his career in teaching, research and administration work at the then Goroka Secondary Teachers Training College.
Sukwianomb said the institution was where Sinebare had spent most of his time as a lecturer, researcher and administrator.
He also held senior positions such as pro vice-chancellor and acting vice-chancellor.
Sinebare, from Chimbu, last night told The National that he had been with the Goroka university for 25 years.
“The University of Goroka is home to me and I am happy to contribute to the progress of the university,” he said.
Sukwianomb said the immediate task at hand was to work with the Government to assist students resume classes as soon as possible.
“Find ways and means of building peace and reconciliation through mediation,” Sukwianomb added.
