PAPUA New Guinean graduates have been challenged to be more innovative and creative.

Deputy Education Minister Gisuwat Siniwin said university graduates were not becoming competitive with the knowledge they had.

He urged graduates in science, medicine, technology and other disciplines to be more proactive in creating things which could revolutionise the country.

“One area we can explore is the use of herbal medicine as our country has vast medicinal plants that can be produced,”Siniwin said.

He also challenged law graduates to handle cases which the country was spending a lot of money by bringing in Queen’s Counsel from Australia.

He said the imbalance in importing of knowledge and skills undermined the credibility of elites as they could not think more creatively.

“We are in the world of competition and let us use our brains to compete.

“We cannot always be spoon fed and I challenge our educated Papua New Guineans to think more seriously how we can be competitive,” he said.

He also commended his supporters for their behaviour after the election petition by Kennedy Wenge, the runner-up in the Nawaeb Open seat, was thrown out by the Court of Disputed Returns.

Siniwin urged his rival to work with him in delivering goods and services in the electorate.
