THE government-appointed Task Force Sweep faces being disbanded because it is about to arrest some senior leaders in government, according to former attorney-general Sir Arnold Amet.
Sir Arnold told the media that it had been brought to the opposition’s attention that the team, appointed recently to investigate corruption in government departments, faced being disbanded.
“This is again evidence of political corruption at its very worst and must not be tolerated and must be resisted at all cost,” he said.
Sir Arnold made the comment following a report in The National yesterday that the Task Force Sweep wanted 33 prominent citizens “monitored” because of pending court cases and investigations.
It had sent a letter to Air Niugini to monitor the movements of the 33 which included senior parliamentarians and bureaucrats.
The list included two senior ministers, a senior politician and a backbencher in the government.
