GOVERNOR-General Sir Bob Dadae has acknowledged the reign of Queen Elizabeth II spanning 68 years as monarch and head of State of Papua New Guinea and the Commonwealth.
Sir Bob congratulated her on her birthday on Saturday, although PNG observed it with a public holiday last Monday.
Celebrations for the event however, have been deferred to a later date due to restrictions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
“Your longevity and reign is not only impressive but encourages us, your subjects, to emulate,” Sir Bob said.
“Long live our Queen and may the Almighty continue His blessings upon your majesty for years to come.”
Sir Bob also extended his congratulatory message and well wishes to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on his 99th birthday last week. “We also convey our congratulations to HRH Prince Philip on attaining a 99th birthday and for a vibrant and healthful life to continue hereafter,” he said.
The governor-general represents the Queen on State matters and performs duties and functions that would have been performed by her.
These functions are constitutional, diplomatic and social.
