THE launching of the integrated electronic case management system (IECMS) at Hilton Hotel on Friday was described by Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika as the way forward to achieving a fully-digitalised court.
Sir Gibbs said he was excited but cautioned that “whatever we do must reflect the result we expect”.
“It is a tool for us to use to enhance our performance in our various places,” he said.
“I’m excited about having this programme rolled out into the provinces and having major centres connected to this system by next year.”
Sir Gibbs praised the National and Supreme Courts registrar and staff for their hard work in getting the website up and running, which was created and managed primarily by Papua New Guineans.
The IECMS is an electronic way of filing court documents.
With the system, of lawyers going to court house with bulks of paper to file, they can now use the website to upload their cases, which will then be received by the court registry office. The court registry would then go through the screening and endorse the cases with court numbers and inform the lawyers to come in for their court on respective dates.
National and Supreme Courts registrar Ian Augerea said they were planning to roll out the IECMS system in Lae in February, Mt Hagen in June and Kokopo in September.
