LADY Regina Kilage, the widow of former Givernor-General Sir Ignatius, passed away last Wednesday in Cairns.

Lady Regina (pictured), 60, was from the Sambuka tribe in Kundiawa, Chimbu.

She married Sir Ignatius in 1974 when she was 20 after completing Grade 10 at Kerowagi High School. They settled in Port Moresby in 1975.

After Sir Ignatius died in office in 1989, she raised their four children and grandchildren.

She carried out charity work and community service in Chimbu and in the country, through the Chimbu Red Cross Miss PNG, Chimbu Children Foundation, Chimbu women’s groups and Catholic seminarians. She helped raise funds to build a steel footbridge across Chimbu River for Mandime villagers.

Lady Kilage is survived by children Gloria, Steven, Josephine and Henry Jr, plus 11 grandchildren.

She will be buried at Mandime next to her late husband as she had requested.
