Sir Julius launches 20 solar lights

 NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan launched the first 20 streetlights in Namatani, with an additional 20 streetlights to be installed.

Sir Julius marked the 40th anniversary of the National Broadcasting Corporation in Kavieng by launching the streetlights. 

“The New Ireland provincial government has successfully installed solar lighting with a priority on the islands and the West Coast aid posts and sub health centres, topped up with installations in Kavieng and Namatanai towns,” he said.

He said solar lights had been installed for Messi, Lipek, Djaul, Tas­kul and Tasingina sub-health centres, Bol Health Centre, Kabanut subHealth Centre, Ungan, Puas, Emirau and Tingwon aid posts 

“More solar lighting systems are expected to be installed in remote government sub-health centres and aid posts in the islands, Konoagil and West Coast until all aid posts in the province have solar lighting and we light up New Ireland.” 

Sir Julius met with NBC representatives to hear plans on expanding its FM service throughout New Ireland, with the service to include Kundu 2 television and new transmitter sites in New Hanover, Tabar, Lihir and the Malmuluan lookout.

Sir Julius said the provincial government would be providing crutches, wheelchairs and delivery beds as priority for all rural health facilities.
